Investigators are looking into the cause of a small fire at the Toad ‘n’ Turtle Pubhouse & Grill in south Red Deer this morning.

Deputy Fire Chief John Gelinas says crews were called to 2004 50 Avenue at Southpointe Common shortly after 5:30 a.m.

“Upon arrival, our initial crew found that there was a bit of smoke from the ceiling area,” he explains. “So we called-in a full alarm and we had all our vehicles attend. We had three engines and our aerial platform and our command vehicle.”

Gelinas says further investigation discovered a small fire in one of the upstairs offices.

“It was quickly extinguished,” he exclaims. “Our crews did do a search of the building and found no other problems. No injuries, there was nobody in the building at the time.”

Gelinas says there’s no damage estimate as of yet and adds crews will continue ventilating the building until no further gas readings are found.
