RED DEER- The Museum + Art Gallery (MAG) has received a landmark gift to their collection.

Painter Dave More has donated a body of his work, spanning his entire career, from the 1970’s to the present.

The gift includes sketchbooks, works on paper, small paint sketches and major works on canvas.

In total the gift comprises 190 works of art.

This is the largest single gift of art that the MAG has ever received.

Dave More has been a significant figure in the history of art in Central Alberta.

He has pursued his career as a painter, and he has taught and mentored many artists in central Alberta.

His artworks present his impressions of the world around him, the landscape, the people, the gardens, as well as impressions of other places that he has visited.

“The Collection Committee and I are very moved by Dave’s generosity in making this extensive gift,” says Lorna Johnson, Executive Director. “He is such an important painter in this region, and we very excited to bring his work into our collection. It will provide us with material for exhibitions over the years to come, and it certainly sets the foundation for the development of our art collection”.

In October, the MAG will present Dave More: A Painter’s Gift, a major exhibition of key works from the gift.

It will be curated by guest curator Mary-Beth Laviolette.
