Snowfall warning: 10-20 cm expected

Apr 26, 2019 | 3:39 PM

Springtime in central Alberta is being put on hold, it appears.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Red Deer – Ponoka – Innisfail – Stettler region.

A whopping 10 to 20 centimetres of snow is expected overnight and throughout the day Saturday.

It’ll be windy, too, with gusts up to 60 km/h Saturday afternoon.

“Persons in or near this area should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions,” Environment Canada says in their warning.

Snowfall warnings are also in effect for Rocky Mountain House – Caroline and Drayton Valley – Devon – Rimbey – Pigeon Lake.

On the bright side, the snow would provide relief for the dry conditions that have led to a number of fire advisories, bans and restrictions throughout central Alberta.

Fire bans are currently in place for Castor, County of Paintearth, Halkirk, Kneehill County and the Town of Trochu.

Fire restrictions are currently in place for Starland County where no controlled burning is allowed outside designated fire pits.

Fire advisories are currently in place for Brazeau County, Burnstick Lake Summer Village, Caroline, Clearwater County, County of Stettler, Lacombe County, Rocky Mountain House, Rocky Mountain House Forest Area, Summer Village of Gull Lake and the Town of Drayton Valley.
