Elections Alberta releases unofficial results

EDMONTON, AB – Unofficial results of the 2019 Alberta provincial election were released Friday evening.

The results concluded that the United Conservative Party ended with 63 seats, while Alberta’s NDP finished with 24 seats.

Although a lot of Alberta’s 87 ridings were declared on Tuesday night, some remained too close to call until the vote-anywhere results were reported.

This was the first time the province used a vote-anywhere system during the advanced polls.

Of the record-breaking 696,000 advance ballots cast, Elections Alberta said more than 223,000 were cast at a polling station outside of the voter’s riding.

Counting of those ballots began Wednesday afternoon and is expected to be completed sometime on Saturday.

This year’s unofficial turnout is 71.1%, which had 1,880,508 votes cast of the 2,643,453 registered voters.

In total, 1,030,560 people voted for the UCP (54.8%), whereas 615,428 residents voted for the NDP (32.7%).

The Alberta Party garnered 170,872 votes (9.1%), while the Liberal Party secured 18,457 votes (1.0%). Neither Party won a seat in the Legislature.

In the 2015 election, voter turnout was 57%.
