United Conservative Party candidate Jason Nixon has been re-elected as MLA for the Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre riding.

This will be Nixon’s second term in office after being elected Wildrose MLA for the riding in 2015.

Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre (80 of 83 polls reporting, 23,235 total votes)
X-18,985 Jason Nixon – UCP
2,122 Jeff Ible – NDP
1,227 Joe Anglin – AP
270 Dawn Berard – FCP
264 Jane Drummond – GRN
172 David Rogers – AIP
151 Paula Lamoureux – AAP
44 Gordon Francey – IND

“We were hearing it from Albertans on the ground each and every day that they wanted change and they wanted their government to go a different direction and I think that’s what that vote shows,” Nixon said after his big win.

Nixon served as the UCP Opposition House Leader and previously served as the Wildrose opposition critic for Human Services. He was a participant on the government’s Ministerial Panel on Child Intervention

“What it comes down to is that people were scared,” Nixon said about what he heard on the campaign trail. “We were getting 185 000 or so people out of work in this province. They needed us to get this economy going and get this pipeline built and if you focus on jobs, and I think that’s why this election matters.”

Nixon went on to say, “I think we will bring back these jobs, we’ll stand up for Alberta. I think the UCP is in the best position to stand up against Justin Trudeau. It’s going to be a tough fight, but the United Conservative Party is prepared to have that fight whereas the NDP were not.”
