No cannabis allowed for Rebels players
Don’t expect Red Deer Rebels players to be consuming cannabis anytime soon.
Rebels radio man Cam Moon says even though recreational cannabis becomes legal across Canada on Wednesday, players will still be banned from using it as per Canadian Hockey League regulations.
“It’s not so much a discussion as a reminder,” Moon told the Morning Drive on 106.7 THE DRIVE on Tuesday. “There’s anti-doping right across the entire CHL and there’s random tests – in fact there was one the other night when we were in Saskatoon. So it happens all the time.”
The CHL’s anti-doping policy prohibits all players from having THC, the principal psychoactive compound in cannabis, in their bloodstream. Moon says that isn’t changing with cannabis becoming legal.
