Sep 26, 2018 | 8:38 PM

Two open houses are coming up as local municipalities continue to prepare for cannabis legalization on Oct. 17.

The Town of Blackfalds is hosting their open house next Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Blackfalds Community Centre.

The open house will also go over proposed changes to laws regarding land use and development, Community standards, and Social and human services. Council members welcome input from the public, as well as hope to answer any questions residents may have.

The Town of Ponoka is inviting its residents to attend an open house on October 11.

Officials will be discussing a new bylaw that takes three current bylaws and places them under one umbrella. The issues covered by the new bylaw include public behavior, property maintenance, and noise control.

The open house will also allow time for Ponoka residents express what action they believe the town should take on public consumption of cannabis.

Currently, Ponoka is set to implement an interim bylaw that will ban the public consumption of recreational cannabis. The law would be in place until a long term strategy to regulate Cannabis consumption could be put in place.

The open house will be held at the Kinsmen Community Centre in Ponoka from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
