Dawe Run celebrates 40 years

Sep 18, 2018 | 2:33 PM

Over 5000 students participated in the 40th Dawe Run on Tuesday.

The run took public and Catholic students in grades 4 – 12 along a scenic route through the river valley, starting at Heritage Ranch and finishing up at Bower Ponds.

The Dawe Run aims to promote fitness and caters to both completive and recreational runners.

“We train our kids to run, to have grit, and to be physically fit,” says Sue Carmichael, Principal of G. H. Dawe School.

“I think it’s like a tradition they say traditions keep families together, and I love that it’s tradition, everyone looks forward to it,” Carmichael added.

“Kids come out and our numbers are growing all the time” Sue says about the importance of the event. “The people that are coming, we have more coming from the rural areas, so it’s a really neat thing to look forward to.”

Tuesday’s run was co-hosted by G.H. Dawe School and St. Patrick’s Community School.
