Council makes decision on Leslieville and Condor fire stations

Clearwater County council has made a decision regarding the amalgamation of the two fire stations in Leslieville and Condor.

It comes after more than three years of gathering information, hosting public engagement sessions and consulting with fire staff.

The plan now is to develop a new public services building with a fire hall in Condor and to modernize the County’s existing public works facility in Leslieville to create a satellite fire station.

The Leslieville project will be funded through the County’s 2019 budget and is expected to cost roughly $4 million. The Condor project will be funded through the 2020 budget and will require roughly $2.1 million in funding. Both remain subject to budget approval.

“Clearwater County council strives to ensure that the regional fire service capacity meets the needs of our community, and that our firefighters are able to perform their jobs to the best of their ability,” says Clearwater County Reeve John Vandermeer. “These new buildings planned in the coming years demonstrate a long-term investment in the fire service that both promotes the fabric of community in our hamlets, and will support firefighters and fire service levels.”

The Condor structure will have five bays covering just over 16,000 square feet, while the Leslieville structure will have three bays covering nearly 9,000 square feet.

County administration will now seek out land in Condor and develop proposals for new construction for the new building, and the future renovation in Leslieville.
