Red Deer man charged for impaired driving, flight from police near Wetaskiwin

A Red Deer man is facing 21 charges following a suspected impaired driving and flight from police incident in the County of Wetaskiwin on Canada Day.

RCMP say one officer was nearly struck when the suspect fled from his arrest attempt but thankfully not hurt. The suspect vehicle not found.

On July 5, RCMP found the vehicle in the City of Wetaskiwin and identified the driver as the same suspect from the July 1 incident and arrested him.

Mounties say the investigation determined the driver was impaired by a drug, the vehicle stolen and numerous stolen items were found inside the vehicle.

As a result of both occurrences, 33-year-old Harvey Lee-Bernick has been charged with assault on a police officer with a weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, impaired care and control of a motor vehicle, five counts of failing to comply with conditions of a recognizance, possession of a controlled substance: Methamphetamine, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, four counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon in a motor vehicle, resist a peace officer, two counts of driving an uninsured motor vehicle on highway and two more of driving while unauthorized.

Lee-Bernick remains in custody for a Wetaskiwin court appearance July 10.
