Stettler woman wins Red Deer Hospital Lottery dream home

A woman from Stettler is this year’s Red Deer Hospital Lottery Dream Home winner.

Debbie Greiner had her winning ticket pulled from the draw barrel during final draws taking place at the dream home on Friday.

The home itself was built by Sorento Custom Homes and is valued at $874,895.

It’s a corner lot bungalow at 56 Larratt Close in Red Deer’s Laredo neighbourhood and features 2,917 square feet of developed living space, boasting high vaulted ceilings, a screened sunroom, main floor library, yoga room and double garage among other highlights.

Red Deer Regional Health Foundation Event Manager Cynthia de Boer says the lottery requires a lot of work from a lot of people to make it a success each year.

“To see it finally come together and have a single winner that’s absolutely thrilled with their new home, it’s so rewarding, I love my job,” de Boer exclaims. “This year’s Red Deer Hospital Lottery will benefit Red Deer Hospital of course, particularly we’re purchasing high technology patient beds. With the funds we’ve raised this year, we’ll actually be purchasing 39 beds which is exactly what our goal was so we’re very happy about that.”

As for ticket sales, de Boer says they were better than last year, pointing to a sell-out of the Mega Bucks 50 / 50 draw which was won by Jeannette Richard from Red Deer who takes home $250,000. Total ticket sales check in at $585,000.

“With the house sales, they were more than last year, we ended up about 84 per cent,” says de Boer. “As much as we’d like to sell-out, we’re very happy with the results.”

deBoer also points out how proud the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation is to have Sorento Custom Homes as the builder of this year’s grand prize dream home.

“Not only do they build a beautiful home but they really put their heart and soul into working with the contractors and get the discounts so that the house comes in less than value of course. They’re a pleasure to work with and we’re really proud that we’re working with them again next year,” she adds.

deBoer says it’s also important to acknowledge the many volunteers who helped make the lottery a success.

“I want to say thank you to our volunteers and of course our ticket buyers,” be Boer says. “The volunteers are an integral part of our success. We simply don’t have enough staff at our foundation to run a lottery of this size and so having those volunteers that come out and support our committee first of all, the people that make the big decisions about what we’re going to have in our lottery but also the people that are on the ground selling the tickets, they are critical.”

Over $1.1 million in prizes are now being awarded from this year’s lottery.
