Wolf Creek and Clearview school divisions sign historic agreement

Two central Alberta school districts have come together this week to sign an historic agreement focusing on curriculum delivery through an Enhanced Learning Model and diploma preparation supports.

The agreement signed between Clearview Public Schools and Wolf Creek Public Schools took place in Stettler on June 20 and is expected to support nearly 2,000 high school students through what is described as a unique partnership between the two districts.

Officials say the Enhanced Learning Model is a ‘made in Wolf Creek’ approach to supporting High School ReDesign needs for students in grades 10-12. The courses are said to use multiple technologies that are integrated with traditional teacher instruction to create a flexible learning environment meeting the unique needs of a variety of students.

During the two year implementation of the Enhanced Learning Model Courses in conjunction with diploma preparation strategies, officials say significant increases have been made to high school completion results in Wolf Creek. Clearview Public Schools will now be able to offer this model of support for its students in the coming school year.

Starting officially in August, Learning Services Coordinator Korey Von Kuster will work collaboratively with both school districts through his shared staff position and will facilitate the program.

“I am excited to be working with both Clearview and Wolf Creek  to share, grow and expand flexible High School learning models,” says Von Kuster in a press release. “I look forward to investing in the staff and students of our schools and am confident that we can make a positive difference to the education and goals of all of our students.”

“Korey’s style and approach brings so many excellent interpersonal skills to this role,” adds Mark McWhinnie, Wolf Creek Public Schools Superintendent. “His background as an original content creator of the resources within the Enhanced Learning Model, previous work with video conference programs, strong student academic results in coursework and effective leadership skills as a school administrator will be a great asset to staff in both school divisions.”

“We are very pleased to enter this partnership with Wolf Creek,” adds Clearview Public Schools Superintendent Peter Barron. “Both Wolf Creek and Clearview have demonstrated leadership in addressing the needs of small high schools in rural Alberta. Leveraging the skills of each school division makes sense and together, we believe both will benefit.”
