Leslieville Elks Lodge members take last step before rebuild

The Leslieville Elks Lodge rebuild is one step closer to being rebuilt after burning down in December of last year.

With all of the plans and permits in place, members are working hard to begin the project. Members came together Saturday morning to back-fill the plot where the old building stood, so work can begin on the new lodge.

The new lodge will be built next to the old plot, mainly because of complications with structural integrity.

“It has to go through so much compaction with the dirt, so we thought we’d just move it over,” says Luke Clough, Elks Lodge member for 17 years. “It’s brand new ground and it’s good and solid here so it won’t be an issue.”

The new lodge will be larger than the old structure, because it will only consist of one floor.

The build will be a joint effort among the 60 Leslieville Elks Lodge members, with hopes of getting the main building up in the upcoming months.

“We hope to get the shell up and be able to get a lock on the door before winter,” says Clough. “Then, as we go, there’s a lot of members that can do inside work.”

Ground will be broken on the new structure in the upcoming days.
