Edmonton police make arrest in back-to-back theft case
EDMONTON – Police have made an arrest following back-to-back break-ins in which an Edmonton couple was robbed of cherished family heirlooms as well as a car.
Investigators say a thief broke into the home of Leslie and Rick Morgenstern on May 9 and made off with $120,000 in custom-made jewelry.
Some of the jewelry had belonged to their daughter Mia who, along with her husband, died in a highway crash in October 2006 near Revelstoke, B.C.
Also stolen was a key fob for Morgenstern’s Acura, but nobody realized that until the thief returned less than two weeks later, broke into the garage and took the car.
