Riggers outscore Sherwood Park in offensive explosion at Great Chief Park

Jun 6, 2018 | 10:04 AM

Based on the final score you’d have thought a football game was played Tuesday night at Great Chief Park.

That doesn’t happen until Saturday. Instead it was the Red Deer Riggers winning a wild 21-12 decision over the Sherwood Park A’s in Sunburst Baseball League action.

The Riggers rebounded from an 11-3 loss Monday in Edmonton to improve their record on the season to 3-1.

The game went back and forth until the Riggers took advantage of depleted Sherwood Park pitching to push across eight runs in the eighth inning. Red Deer scored also scored five runs in both the second and third innings. Sherwood Park’s big inning came in the third when they scored six times.

Riggers pitchers combined to throw over 200 pitches on the night.

Shortstop Jason Chatwood drove in six runs, one of several Riggers who had a big night at the plate.

While Tuesday’s game featured plenty offence, it also took a long time to play clocking in at four and a half hours.

The Riggers are back in action Friday night when they visit St. Albert.
