Feb 26, 2018 | 3:22 PM

A man arrested last month after Red Deer RCMP made their “largest cocaine bust in recent memory” will spend several years behind bars.

Mounties began their investigation on Dec. 8 which culminated in the arrest of a man in a north Red Deer parking lot on Jan. 4. A warrant was executed at the man’s Highland Green residence at about 11:30 a.m. the same day.

Seized from the home was 37 ounces of cocaine, along with paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.

RCMP officers seized about 1,040 grams, equal to between 5,200 to 15,000 individual doses.

Chuot Le, 57, pleaded guilty to possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking in Red Deer court on Feb. 22. He was sentenced to six years in prison and given a lifetime firearms prohibition.

A resolution has been reached after a city taxi driver was assaulted and had his cab stolen.

In the early morning hours of May 23, 2016, police say an Alberta Gold Taxi picked up two people and dropped one of them off at a home outside of Red Deer.

Soon after, the emergency alert in the vehicle was activated and Blackfalds RCMP responded, finding the cab driver seriously injured. He was taken to hospital and his taxi was later found abandoned in downtown Red Deer.

The victim, a cab driver in Red Deer for approximately 30 years and whose name was not released by police, suffered injuries including a concussion, broken femur, and broken bones in his hands.

Daniel Trout, 33, was charged with aggravated assault, robbery, and mischief.

He was sentenced on Feb. 23 to three years behind bars, fined more than $17,000 and given a lifetime firearms prohibition.

Trial has been ordered for a man charged with attempted murder for a stabbing in Oriole Park nearly two years ago.

It was shortly after 5 a.m. on August 6, 2016 when Mounties responded to a complaint of a serious assault at Orient Green. Shortly thereafter, a second call came in about a man at the Red Deer Regional Hospital suffering from stab wounds.

Mounties soon determined the two calls were related and that the injured man was the victim from the prior assault call. A 27-year-old man was later arrested at the Orient Green location.

Linden Joseph Buffalo, 28, is charged with attempted murder, assault and mischief under $5,000.

He was ordered to stand trial following a preliminary hearing held last week. Trial dates have not been set.
