Province introduces construction standards legislation

May 5, 2017 | 8:38 AM

EDMONTON- Legislation has been introduced in Alberta to protect buyers of new houses and condos from shoddy workmanship.

The law proposes minimum construction standards and also calls for builders to be licensed.

Currently, there are no rules in place for builders in Alberta and no way to stop them from operating, even if they commit fraud or breach labour laws.

B-C, Ontario and Quebec already have similar rules in place.
