Mobile mammography service coming to Ponoka in November
Alberta Health Services is providing mobile mammography services in Ponoka next month.
Starting November 10 and again from the 14-18 and 20-22, a mobile mammography trailer will be stationed at the Ponoka Community Health Centre so residents can have local access to mammography services.
According to AHS officials, early detection allows for a greater number of options for treatment and a better chance of survival, especially for women between the ages of 50-74 – the group most at-risk for developing breast cancer.
A mammogram, which is an X-ray of the breast, has proven to be the most effective way to detect breast cancer.
