A new grant from the government of Alberta is bringing $25-a-day child care to Drayton Valley.

On Wednesday Premier Rachel Notley announced funding for the Early Childhood Development Centre (ECDC) in Drayton Valley as part of the Early Learning Child Care Centres grant.

The ECDC will receive $553,334 for a one year pilot program which will enhance accessibility and affordability of child care in Drayton Valley.

The grant enables the ECDC to offer quality child care to members of the community at the rate of $550 a month based on the provincial grant standard of $25 a day.

“This is exciting news for families looking for affordable child care options,” said Mayor Michael Doerksen. “My Council and I are committed to pursuing grant funding that supports the community and our working parents. Supporting families in this way contributes to the economic strength of our region and the healthy development of our children.”

Beginning May 1, 2018, 88 spaces will be available for full time, part time or drop-in child care at the ECDC.  These spaces aim to expand access to affordable child care in the community.

In total Budget 2018 supports 7,300 affordable child care spaces in communities all across the province.
