Car/semi crash near Three Hills claims 95 y/o man

One person has died following a collision Tuesday afternoon near Three Hills.

It was at about 2:30 p.m. that Three Hills RCMP responded to the intersection of Highway 583 and Highway 21. That’s where a passenger car carrying two occupants was struck on the driver’s side by a semi-tractor trailer unit.

The 95-year-old male driver of the car was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead. His 96 year old female passenger was air lifted to a city hospital with serious injuries. Their names are not being released.

The semi driver was not injured.

Police say preliminary investigation suggests the passenger car had entered into the intersection from Highway 583 after the stop sign to make a left (northbound) turn onto Highway 21 when it was struck by the south bound semi-truck.

The intersection where the crash occurred was closed for several hours while a RCMP Collision Reconstructionist assisted Mounties with their investigation.
