Generals earn spot in Allan Cup semis

The Lacombe Generals have earned a valuable night off at the 2018 Allan Cup in Rosetown, SK.

Lacombe earned a 5-3 over the Stoney Creek Generals in the final round-robin game of the tournament Wednesday night.

The teams traded goals in the opening period with Kyle Sheen scoring for Lacombe and Justin DaCosta for Stoney Creek.

Each team struck twice in the second period, Sheen and Jesse Todd for Lacombe and Matthew Bragg and Christopher Hulit for Stoney Creek.

Todd scored the eventual game winning goal for Lacombe 1:44 into period three. Nolan Huysmans added an insurance tally at the 9:13 mark.

Jacob Deserres turned aside 28 shots to earn the win in net for Lacombe. Brett Leggat made 43 saves in the loss for Stoney Creek.

With the win, Lacombe finished round robin play with a 1-0-1 record, good enough to clinch first place in their pool and a bye into Friday’s semifinals.

Quarterfinals action on Thursday sees Stoney Creek take on Bethune at 4 p.m. MT followed by the host Rosetown Redwings versus Elsipogtog at 8 p.m.

The winners will move on to play Lacombe and the South East Prairie Thunder in Friday’s semis.

Saturday’s championship game goes at 8 p.m .
