Late spring means late opening for Red Deer sports parks

This news shouldn't come as much of a surprise given the extra blasts of winter we've received lately.

The City of Red Deer says it expects all sports fields, diamonds and courts will open later than May 1 due to the late arrival of spring. T

This includes all fields in Great Chief Park.

After the snow melts, crews require all sports fields, diamonds and courts to fully dry before spring maintenance can be performed. The City asks everyone to stay off the fields until they officially open to prevent damage.

"More information and estimated opening dates will be announced in the coming weeks. We thank everyone for their patience," says John Eastwood, Parks Amenities Supervisor.
