Elderly Bragg Creek woman seriously injured in sword attack

UPDATE [March 12] As a result of the RCMP investigation, 19-year-old Marshall Rath of Bragg Creek has been charged with one count of Aggravated Assault and with one count of being in possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. 

Rath’s next court appearance is scheduled for March 13 in Cochrane.

BRAGG CREEK- RCMP say an elderly woman is in hospital and a 19-year-old man is in custody after a sword attack early this morning.

Officers were called to a residence in Bragg Creek, west of Calgary, at about 12:45 a.m. after reports that the woman had been attacked with a sword by another occupant of the home.

She was transported to hospital in serious condition.

Police say the investigation is still in its early stages and add there is no concern for public safety.
