Red Deer RCMP round up more suspected criminals

Mounties have arrested close to a dozen people suspected of several property-related crimes in Red Deer over the past week and a half.

On November 7, around 11:30 p.m., RCMP responded to a suspicious vehicle complaint in Riverside Meadows after a truck reportedly drove onto a residential lawn and came to a stop. A man in the driver’s seat was found to be violating a number of court-imposed conditions. Police say the truck was reported stolen out of Blackfalds November 6. Thomas Jeffrey Houle, 20, faces nine counts and is due in Red Deer court again December 7.

On November 8, shortly after 1;30 p.m., RCMP spotted a vehicle parked in downtown Red Deer that had a man in the driver’s seat with a flare gun. Officers were aware the man was on court-imposed conditions to not be in possession of anything that could be used as a weapon.  The suspect allegedly refused to get out of the vehicle but police eventually managed to remove him from it without injury to himself or others. Mounties say a flare gun and bear spray were seized during the arrest. Jessie Singh Dodd, 32, faces three new counts and is due in court again December 13.

Also November 8, around 10:00 p.m., RCMP Police Dog Services found a stolen Ford F-150 parked under the 67 Street bridge on a walking trail in the area of 45 Avenue. Police say the truck was suspected in a number of erratic driving complaints and when approached, rammed the police car several times before an officer was able to arrest the driver. Fortunately, the officer wasn’t hurt. Mounties say the truck which had a quad in the back, had been reported stolen out of the Blackfalds area on November 7. The quad was reported stolen as part of a separate truck theft out of the Leduc area November 7. Christopher Wickins-Pearse, 21, was wanted on several outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest and now faces four new counts. He is slated to appear in court again November 28.

On November 11, around 10:00 p.m., RCMP found a suspect in a stolen truck in the Rosedale neighbourhood. She was found to be in possession of stolen keys to a number of vehicles and wanted on several outstanding warrants out of Edmonton. Jesse Ann Schiach, 24, faces five counts and is due in Red Deer court December 6.

On November 12, around 7:00 p.m., RCMP responded to a suspicious vehicle complaint in the Clearview neighbourhood. Officers found a suspect in a parked stolen truck and took him into custody without incident. The truck had been reported stolen out of Sylvan Lake and the license plate reported stolen out of Blackfalds. Kevin Leo Gallagher, 33, faces eight new counts and is due in Red Deer court November 20.

On November 13, around 3:00 p.m., Mounties were called to the Riverside Industrial area where two citizens stopped a man in a vehicle they believed was trying to steal it. Police Dog Services attended and arrested the suspect nearby in the park system. Christopher Lyle Hannah, 41, faces three counts and was due in Red Deer court November 17.

Also November 13, around 10:00 p.m., Mounties found a suspect wanted on warrants for a personal robbery on November 4, in which the victim had his wallet stolen and received a serious but non-life threatening stab wound to his face. At the time of his arrest, the suspect is alleged to have given a false name and in possession of illegal drugs and a knife. Shawn Ryan Cooper, 34, faces five counts and remains in custody for a court appearance November 28.

Still on November 13, around 11:00 p.m., police responded to reports of suspicious activity at a rented garage in the Johnstone neighbourhood. On arrival, RCMP found a stolen boat and arrested the suspect who was renting the garage. Mounties say the suspect was wanted on outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest. Ryan Malcolm Leary, 32, faces two new counts and was due in Red Deer court November 17.

On November 15, shortly before 6:00 a.m., Red Deer Mounties were assisted by Blackfalds RCMP in locating a stolen Cadillac as it drove into Red Deer. The car was found in the Riverside Meadows neighbourhood where it was disabled remotely by Onstar. The driver then tried to take-off but was taken into custody. Police say the car had been reported stolen out of Ponoka. Johnny Howard MacDonald, 23, was wanted on a number of outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest and now faces seven new counts. He remains in custody for a Red Deer court appearance November 21.

Also on November 15, shortly before 12:30 p.m., RCMP responded to a report of activity in a vacant apartment in the Pines neighbourhood. Two suspects were found inside, with one resisting arrest but taken into custody without injury to himself or officers. The second suspect was arrested without incident and wanted on outstanding warrants. Trevor James Larmodin, 47, faces two counts and is due in Red Deer court November 24. Jessy Langlois, 25, was remanded on his outstanding warrants and appeared in Red Deer court November 17.
