Applications open for RDC’s new Pre-Health Sciences Certificate
This September, Red Deer College will welcome its first group of students to the Pre-Health Sciences Certificate program.
The one-year program is unique across Alberta, RDC officials say, and is designed to give students insight into the roles and responsibilities of a variety of health care professionals.
“This new certificate program is a positive option for students who are considering a future in health care,” says Linda Moore Martin, Dean, School of Health Sciences. “There are such diverse careers in health care, and this program will provide students the opportunity to explore basic concepts that are relevant across many professions, while also learning some specifics about each role. This can be very helpful as they determine the particular paths they would like to pursue.”
Students will learn about health and health care, including anatomy, physiology, personal health and wellness, while developing critical thinking and communication skills necessary for their future careers. With a course load of 22 credits, college officials note that students have the flexibility to add courses if they need to upgrade or to take electives that would benefit their future educational goals.
