Optimist Chiefs win opener at Mac’s Tournament

The Red Deer Optimist Chiefs earned a 5-2 win over the Beardy’s Blackhawks in their opening game at the Mac’s Tournament in Calgary on Wednesday.

Red Deer jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from Josh Zinger and Brendan McBride.

Jayden Henderson scored in the second period to put the Optimist Chiefs ahead 3-0.

The Blackhawks scored a pair in the third period before Deegan Moffard and Sean Michaelvich replied for Red Deer to seal the victory.

Optmimist Chiefs goalie Goalie Logan Breen turned aside 30 of 32 shots he faced. Brett Meerman had two assists and was named Red Deer’s player of the game.
