Blackfalds seeks concession operator for Abbey Centre

Dec 12, 2018 | 3:42 PM

The Town of Blackfalds is seeking proposals from qualified food services contractors to operate a food and beverage service in the Abbey Centre.

Contractors will work along with Abbey Centre staff to ensure that the best level of service is being offered to our guests.

“This is a great opportunity to foster the entrepreneurial spirit in Blackfalds, while maintaining a popular service at our newest facility,” states Director of Community Services, Sean Barnes.

Opened in 2014, the Abbey Centre offers guests many recreational opportunities and encourages active lifestyles and cultural activities for people of all ages. The Abbey Centre features a child minding space, indoor play space, field house gymnasium, outdoor aquatic centre, meeting rooms, fitness centre and running track inside and a playground, fitness equipment and amphitheatre outside. As well as being a host facility for several regional and community events, the Abbey Centre welcomes over 150,000 members and guests per year.

Blackfalds has been one of Canada’s youngest and fastest growing communities with growth averaging 9% annually over the last ten years. Record breaking commercial and industrial development has also been taking place in recent years and the availability of and attractive pricing of land within the community coupled with quality of life amenities, such as the Abbey Centre and the parks and trails systems, are contributing factors to the ongoing growth.

The application process will close on December 21 and a decision will follow in early January with a proposed start date set for February 1, 2019.
