FORT MACLEOD- An RCMP officer in southern Alberta has been charged with assault following a police investigation.

Police say a constable from the Fort Macleod detachment responded to a 911 call made from a home in Granum last April.

They allege he was confirming the welfare of a resident at the home when an argument broke out between the two of them and the officer pushed and punched the resident.

The matter was investigated by RCMP from the Crowsnest Pass detachment.
