Nov 11, 2018 | 6:51 PM

It took a little extra time but the Red Deer Rebels came away with two points following a 3-2 overtime win over the Broncos in Swift Current Sunday night.

It was the Rebels third game in three nights and wrapped up their eastern road trip with two wins and one loss.

The Broncos opened the scoring in this one however when Ben King picked up his fourth goal of the season at 7:06 of the first period to make it 1-0 Swift Current.

In the second, Swift Current’s Max Patterson scored his fifth of the year at the 0:40 mark to make it 2-0 Broncos.

The Rebels responded soon afterwards though when Zak Smith scored his third of the season at 1:27 to cut Swift Current’s lead to 2-1.

Then with just 26 seconds left in the second period, Red Deer’s Josh Tarzwell picked up his third goal of the year to tie it up at 2-2 heading into the final frame.

With no scoring in the third period, the teams went to overtime but it didn’t last long.

The Rebels Reese Johnson scored his ninth of the season, the game-winner just one minute-in to give the visitors the victory.

Shots on goal finished 48-17 in favour of Red Deer, with the Rebels going 0/3 on the power play and Swift Current 0/1.

The win improves the Rebels record to 13-5-1-0 with 27 points and first place in the WHL’s Central Division while Swift Current drops to 3-16-1-1 with 8 points and sixth place in the East Division.

The Rebels next game is Friday, November 16 when they host the Kelowna Rockets for a 7:00 p.m. face-off at the Enmax Centrium.
