Headlining performers announced for 2019 Canada Winter Games

Headlining acts set to perform at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer have been announced.

During a launch event held at the Game’s new Volunteer Distribution Centre in the former Sears building at Bower Place Tuesday night, officials announced Toronto-born singer-songwriter Scott Helman as one of 11 headlining acts set to perform at the 52 degrees North Music and Cultural Festival presented by ATB and ATCO.

The festival will feature Juno and Canadian Country Music Association award winners who will perform over 10 days between February 16 and March 1, 2019.

 

 

Other acts slated to perform include Gord Bamford, Brett Kissel, Alan Doyle (formerly of Great Big Sea), Walk Off The Earth, Bif Naked, The Strumbellas, Wide Mouth Mason, Busty & the Bass, Frannie Klein and the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra.

“In addition to the main stage talent, the 52 degrees North Music and Cultural Festival also features a number of theatre and visual artists groups on a community stage,” says Lyn Radford, Chair of the 2019 Canada Winter Games Host Society. “This provides an opportunity to really showcase local and provincial talent to visitors across the nation and for central Albertans to enjoy. And to top it off, this all-ages festival is free to attend.”

“The 52 degrees North Music and Cultural Festival in the heart of downtown Red Deer will serve as the cultural hub during the Canada Games,” adds Tara Veer, Mayor, City of Red Deer. “Our local arts and culture community will be celebrated and residents and visitors alike will experience the local talent Red Deer has to offer when we welcome our fellow Canadians to our community.”

The 52 degrees North Music and Cultural Festival will also feature local artisans, food vendors and sponsor activities at the Gary W. Harris Celebration Plaza which is set to open in November.

Additional talent and headliners are expected to be announced in January.
