Gaetz/QEII interchange on schedule to be finished this fall

Aug 14, 2018 | 9:20 AM

The new Gaetz/QEII interchange is on schedule to be completed this fall, according to a statement from the deputy premier’s office.

Work is ongoing on the $80 million project which has spanned three years and includes five new bridges and additional collector and highway access lanes.

These will improve access to the city while reducing congestion and providing increased economic benefits.

The project is also part of a plan to develop additional capacity along the QEII, a corridor which is currently over capacity.

It is generating 300 direct and indirect jobs over the three years of work, including 85 in 2018.

On Monday, Health Minister and Deputy Premier Sarah Hoffman visited the construction site to hand out water to workers. She was joined by Red Deer MLAs Barb Miller and Kim Schreiner, as well as Andy Hudson, construction manager with Alberta Transportation.

Media were invited to the site, but none of the representatives were made available for comment.

Construction updates and road closures and detours are available on the Government of Alberta website.
