Attendance up on day three of Westerner Days

Attendance on day three of Red Deer’s Westerner Days Fair & Exposition saw 20,325 guests take in the sights, sounds and thrills of central Alberta’s largest summer celebration, up from 19,054 people on the same day last year.

Washboard Union,  River Town Saints and The Dean Ray Band took over the TD Main Stage on Friday night to put on an exhilarating show for 3,400 fans. 

The Red Deer Motors North American Pony Chuckwagon Championships were on its third day Friday as crowds filled the stadium to the brim in the sunshine. Evening race goers saw Reed Rosencrans, sponsored by The Pipe Yard come in first place with a time of 77.15 seconds, while second and third place was split between split Jack Stott, sponsored by The Home Place, and Mike Motowylo, sponsored by Cherry Hill Auctions, with a time of 77.52.

Average scores from the past three days has Reed Rosencrans, sponsored by The Pipe Yard, in the lead with 233.61 seconds and Jack Stott in seconds place, sponsored by The Home Place at 235.23 seconds. John Stott, sponsored by Go Uncle Bens RV, is in third place overall with his time of 235.85 seconds. The final qualifying heat of races take place Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. with finals being held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

Friday evening also saw the first chariot races, Bob Leach, sponsored by Ironstone Services, Ohaton, came in first place, with a time of 75.90 seconds, while Marty Maxwell, sponsored by Prairie Water & Equipment Rentals, took home second place with his 75.91 seconds. Allan Bengtson, sponsored by Losness Drilling/Viking Auction Mart finished third with a time of  76.57. The second and final qualifying heat of chariot races will happen at 5:00 p.m. Friday evening, while the finals take place on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. 

Friday night’s TD Main Stage show features Dear Rouge, Virginia to Vegas and The Randi Boulton Band. Fair-goers can get free reserved floor seating by going to the Tickets Alberta Box Office 90 minutes before the concert starts. These tickets are free with admission. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m. with the concert kicking off at 8:00 p.m.
