Devin Dreeshen has won the United Conservative Party nomination for the Innisfail-Sylvan Lake constituency.

Dreeshen was announced as the winner late Wednesday night after voting by party members in the riding wrapped up in Penhold.

The son of Red Deer – Mountain View MP Earl Dreeshen, Devin beat out six other candidates to earn the nomination – Christine Moore, Joan Barnes, Gayle Langford, Victor Sloboda, Josh Loh and Mike Walsh.

UCP leader Jason Kenney released a statement congratulating Dreeshen on his victory.

“I couldn’t be happier to see another talented young conservative nominated, and am thrilled at the prospect of having Devin join our caucus team,” said Kenney. “The amount of interest in this nomination race, and our party, is a testament to the momentum that the conservative movement has in Alberta.”

Dreeshen will now represent the UCP in an upcoming by-election, the date for which has yet to be announced. He replaces Don MacIntyre, who resigned as Innisfail-Sylvan Lake MLA in February.

The UCP is holding its Founding AGM this weekend in Red Deer.
