Second annual Christmas Wish Breakfast a big success

Red Deerians showed their warm generosity once again at the 2nd Annual Christmas Wish Breakfast held at the Black Knight Inn Sunday morning.

Well over 600 attendees and the Red Deer Firefighters Children’s Charity brought new, unwrapped toys, cash and gift cards, all in support of the Red Deer Christmas Bureau and Salvation Army to allow those organizations to help the less fortunate in our community. The goal being to ensure that no child in Red Deer wakes up without a toy on Christmas morning.

As a thank you, those who attended were able to enjoy some live entertainment and a complimentary hot breakfast courtesy of numerous event sponsors.

Red Deer Christmas Bureau President Teresa Kutynec estimated ten per cent of the children they helped out in 2016 were done so through the funds raised at last year’s inaugural event.

Meanwhile, Salvation Army Spokesperson Dena Okhifoh says 421 people came to use their services through their Adopt-A-Family program in 2016. A number she anticipates to be higher this year.
