Alberta baseball, basketball teams reach podium at Canada Summer Games

Alberta sits fourth in the overall medal standings at the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg.

Our province has earned 38 medals, including 7 gold, heading into Tuesday competition. Ontario leads with 101 medals followed by B.C. with 65 and Quebec with 63.

Alberta’s male basketball team, coached by Clay Pottinger of the RDC Kings, took silver on Friday after a 108-65 loss to Ontario in the final.

On the diamond, Alberta claimed bronze in male baseball with a 5-1 win over Ontario on Friday after being edged 1-0 by Manitoba in the semifinals. The team was coached by Dwayne Lalor of Red Deer and featured Cooper Jones of Ponoka and Branden Woods of Red Deer on its roster.
