Democrat Richard Pan wins election to U.S. House in California’s 6th Congressional District

Democrat Richard Pan won election Wednesday to the U.S. House of Representatives representing California’s 6th Congressional District. Pan is a doctor and former state senator. As a legislator, he became a target of the anti-vaccine movement after sponsoring a bill to eliminate philosophical and religious exemptions for school immunization requirements. He defeated Rep. Kevin Kiley, who was elected as a Republican but dropped his party affiliation after California voters last year approved new congressional boundaries favoring Democrats. The Associated Press declared Pan the winner at 2:00 a.m. EST.
