Man accused of assaulting Lacombe peace officer

Oct 27, 2026 | 3:33 PM

Lacombe Police have charged a man with a series of offences following an incident on Monday of this week.

On Oct. 26, around 4:30 p.m., LPS responded to a call for service east of Highway 2A and south of Township Road 410. It resulted in the arrest of a 39-year-old man.

Per LPS:

“During the initial interaction with police, Deschamps allegedly lunged toward officers while armed with an edged weapon and subsequently fled the scene on foot. Officers followed Deschamps and encountered him a second time, at which point he allegedly brandished another weapon and failed to comply with repeated police directions. Both an ARWEN less-lethal round and a conducted energy weapon were deployed to stop the threat and bring the situation under control.”

As a result of the investigation, the man has been charged with the following offences:

  • Assaulting a Peace Officer
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Failure to Comply with Release Conditions

“Assaults against police officers are becoming increasingly concerning, and we have seen an increase in these types of incidents. Our officers respond to calls for service every day with the expectation that they may encounter unpredictable and potentially dangerous situations,” says LPS Chief Jason Dobirstein.

“Violence or threats directed toward our officers will not be tolerated and are taken extremely seriously. Our members deserve to carry out their duties without being subjected to violence, and we remain committed to holding those responsible accountable through the justice system.”

The accused was held in custody for a court date on Oct. 29 in Red Deer.
