Lacombe Composite’s project is called the BeeWise BeeCube system, and is designed to save bee colonies.

“Becoming a finalist and receiving this recognition is a proud moment for our entire community,” says Principal Valerie Yaremchuk.

“Our students have proven that when you combine technology with environmental stewardship, high schoolers can build real-world solutions to global challenges. Winning the Zayed Sustainability Prize will allow us to scale this vital environmental sustainability work, empowering the next generation of leaders to make a lasting impact on our agricultural ecosystems.”

The prize has been awarded since 2008 and is the United Arab Emirates’ way of recognizing excellence in sustainability.

Lacombe is one of three finalists from the Americas.

Winners of the 2027 Zayed Sustainability Prize will be announced on Jan. 12, 2027 in Abu Dhabi, during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week
