Provincial trade minister to travel to Mexico, U.S. in 12-day trade mission

Alberta’s Minister of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration is heading south this weekend – far south, in fact, to Mexico’s capital city to begin a 12-day trade mission.

In a release Friday, the Province said Joseph Schow will meet with government and industry leaders to strengthen economic ties and create new opportunities for Alberta businesses.

“The mission will showcase Alberta’s competitive business environment, skilled workforce, world-class innovation and resources that support long-term growth and investment,” said the statement.

The minister will take part in the influential North Capital Forum that, not only brings together leading Mexican trade and investment leaders, but also company CEOs from the United States and Canada.

“As one of the most competitive jurisdictions for business, Alberta offers world-class expertise, a highly skilled workforce and an innovative business environment that continues to attract investment from around the world,” said Schow, the MLA for Cardston-Siksika.

“By connecting with other North American industry leaders, investors and decision makers, we can help Alberta businesses access new opportunities, create jobs and support long-term economic growth across our province.”

On Wednesday, the provincial jobs and trade minister will leave Mexico City for Texas, arriving in the state capital of Austin, to hold sessions with industry and government leaders before travelling to Dallas for the final leg of the trip.

He’s scheduled to arrive back in Alberta October 7.
