Calgary pressed hard in the offensive zone, leading to a point shot that bounced off the end boards and onto forward Charlie Kresl’s stick on the left side of the net. The rookie fired a shot into the open net as Kondro tried to make it over in time to stop the puck.

The Hitmen extended their lead later in the first period on the man advantage when Brennan Brown knocked in the rebound in front of the net.

After a scoreless second period, the Rebels finally got on the board 1:01 into the third period.

Rebels forward Cameron Kuzma scored from a sharp angle from the left side of the net after he gathered the loose puck.

Red Deer then found the equalizer just over three minutes later off the stick of forward Kohen Lodge on the power play.

The Red Deer native went top shelf, beating the Hitmen goaltender following a backhand pass from rookie forward Paxson Madill.

In overtime, neither team could find the back of the net, despite plenty of opportunities.

As a result, a shootout was needed, and the Hitmen came out on top on home ice.

Next up, the Rebels will host the Edmonton Oil Kings on Saturday in the home opener at the Centrium.
