Rebels battle back but Hitmen prevail in OT
The Red Deer Rebels came back to tie it in the third period but fell 3-2 to the Calgary Hitmen in overtime on Saturday night in preseason action at the Centrium.
The Rebels were on the penalty kill to start the extra frame after forward Cameron Kuzma was shown the door by the officials for a five-minute major penalty for slashing towards the end of the third period.
As a result, Calgary’s Blake Vanek fired a shot that beat goaltender Nathan Salisbury up high to win the game early in overtime.
When asked about the penalty, Rebels head coach Brent Kisio said it’s important to play with discipline late in the game.
