Alberta Open Farm Days returns August 15-16
It’s that time of the year again when Albertans are invited to visit local farms and learn about what producers are doing to make the world go round.
Alberta Open Farm Days runs Aug. 15 and 16, with about 150 sites participating this year.
Executive committee member Tannis Baker shares that this year’s theme is ‘Rangelands and Pastoralists,’ and breaks down what that means.
“Rangeland is essentially like saying ranchlands; so it is farmland that’s used for grazing animals. A pastoralist is a person who takes care of grazing animals. Globally, when we say pastoralists, those are people who will take animals that are a bit more nomadic; so ones which might range over mountains and hills,” Baker explains.
