The Outreach Centre in Red Deer is relocating to the downtown core.

The non-profit has, for many years, been located along Taylor Drive near 43 Avenue, but it will take up residence in the Youth HQ Social Impact Centre as of mid-September.

“The board of directors is committed to ensuring The Outreach Centre remains a stable and sustainable organization for the long term,” said Gillian Goheen-Smith, board president.

“These strategic decisions position the organization to continue delivering exceptional service while adapting to the changing needs of our community. We are confident in the direction of the organization and fully support the work of our leadership team and staff.”

Changes are happening with a longtime program of The Outreach Centre, that being Tools for School. Originally launched by United Way Central Alberta, it has been a partnership between the two organizations for several years.

Now, it will go back to being run just by United Way Central Alberta. More details are to come on that, but some preliminary details and information on how you can support it are here.

“This transition creates an opportunity to strengthen and expand the community partnerships that make Tools for School possible,” said Chelsea O’Donoghue, CEO of United Way Central Alberta.

“By bringing together schools, social service agencies, donors, volunteers, and corporate partners, we’ll continue to ensure families have access to the supplies they need and students start the school year with confidence. We thank The Outreach Centre for its years of leadership in delivering the program and look forward to continuing this important work alongside our many community partners.”

The services offered at The Outreach Centre will remain wide-ranging.

Currently, they include Adopt-a-Family, help for intimate partner violence, housing, safe visitation, and Julietta’s Place, among others.

They also run several major events each year, including the Lip Sync Battle, a pickleball tournament, a golf tournament, and Walk A Mile In Her Shoes in both Red Deer and Sylvan Lake.

A community open house for The Outreach Centre is being scheduled for this fall.
