Town of Ponoka to host free swim and barbecue ahead of National Drowning Prevention Week
The Town of Ponoka is set to host a family-friendly event ahead of National Drowning Prevention Week.
On Thursday, July 16, they will hold a free swim and free outdoor community barbecue at the Ponoka Aquaplex from 1 to 3 p.m. They will move the barbecue indoors if it rains.
“Over 400 Canadians die in preventable water-related incidents every year,” the town wrote in a media release. “National Drowning Prevention Week helps build skills and awareness about these incidents in an effort to prevent these types of tragedies.”
National Drowning Prevention Week is set for July 19 to 25, and the town says there will be other activities at the Aquaplex, including:
