Conditional sentence for central Alberta man charged in shooting incident

Co-accused Trey Littlechild, 26, and Alyssa Soosay, 30, both of Samson Cree Nation, saw their matters stayed in Wetaskiwin Court of Justice on July 23, 2024.

According to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS), it was determined there was no reasonable likelihood of conviction for Littlechild or Soosay, so the charges against both were stayed.

It was on June 10, 2024, when Maskwacis RCMP responded to a report of a shooting on the Samson Cree Nation.

Mounties say an investigation into the incident revealed that multiple bullets were fired into a residence occupied by several children and adults. The investigation by police led to the arrest of two individuals and the execution of a search warrant at a residence in Wetaskiwin. During that search, police say they recovered prohibited firearms and magazines.

At that time, police were still searching for the third suspect, Dorian O’Shea Hunter, who was originally charged with:

Possession of a weapon obtained by crime;

Possession of a prohibited weapon with ammunition;

Possession of a prohibited weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized (X2);

Unsafe storage of a firearm; and

Failing to comply with a release order.

Trey Littlechild, was originally charged with:

Possession of a prohibited device contrary to an Order (X2);

Possession of a prohibited device knowing its possession is unauthorized;

Failing to comply with a release order; and

Failing to comply with a probation order.

Alyssa Soosay was originally charged with:

Discharging a firearm with intent; and

Unauthorized possession of a prohibited device.
