Nevaeh Hope is preparing to walk across the stage as valedictorian at this year’s graduation ceremony for Gateway Christian School.

The accomplishment comes after 13 years at the same school for Hope, who said she was surprised and honoured to receive the selection.

“I get a lot of my academic ability from my mom, and my drive and my curiosity from my dad. They have helped me so much,” she shared.

“One of the things that makes Gateway so special are the relationships you build with your teachers and classmates over many years. The teachers have seen you grow up and become the person that you are today. There is a strong sense of connection and community here.”

Hope also spent part of her high school years at Lindsay Thurber, through the ‘Gurber’ program, with one of her prouder accomplishments performing keyboard in the pit band for the school’s production of Footloose.

She now offers her advice to younger students.

“Get involved in extracurricular activities and don’t be afraid to try something that feels intimidating,” she said. “Do things that scare you, because if it terrifies you in the end, at least you did it.”

Hope plans to attend RDP to pursue a Bachelor of Science in psychology. The long-term goal is to obtain her Master’s and Doctorate.

“As a school, we recognize the work that she has put in, and the academic excellence that she has exhibited throughout her high school career,” said Gateway Principal Chris Kooman.

“Nevaeh shows excellence in so many areas: her friendships, her music and acting, her relationship with God, her respect for her teachers – Neveah displays the excellent qualities that we hope to foster at Gateway Christian School.”

Gateway’s graduation ceremony and celebration will take place on June 25.
