The issue at hand is that the waterproofing on the concrete on the inside of the reservoir was pulling away from the surface, and there was cracking in the waterproofing.

Since then, the Mountview reservoir has been out of service, and these repairs are needed as soon as possible to return it to service ahead of the summer season. The city said that during the summer season, water usage increases.

“Completion of this repair is higher priority than some of the projects planned for the Water Treatment Plant Annual Program, and therefore it is recommended to reduce this budget item and transfer the funds to the required repairs at Mountview Reservoir,” as stated in the report from administration.

Administration explained during the meeting on Tuesday that the reservoir allows the city to shut down certain pump stations and even the water treatment plan for periods of time to repair things like pumps. It also provides additional capacity in the summer.

The city anticipates the contractor to begin repair work within one week and is estimated to be completed within four weeks, with an additional week to refill the reservoir and return it to service.
