Public feedback now open for Project Nexus development permit

Jun 3, 2026 | 2:13 PM

The Red Deer Homeless Foundation has officially submitted its development permit application for phase one of Project Nexus.

Project Nexus, as has been well publicized, is a proposed social care campus at 7740 40 Avenue.

City council approved rezoning for the project in February.

The project’s first phase would see the foundation establish a 200-bed emergency shelter at the site, operated by Hope Mission.

Future phases include primary and urgent care, mental health and addictions supports, housing navigation, Indigenous-led services, employment programming, and food security supports.

Written comments will be accepted until June 15, 2026.

Tentatively, city council is slated to review a report and administration’s recommendation for first reading at their meeting on June 23.
