Blackfalds adds e-bikes to peace officer fleet

The Town of Blackfalds is adding two e-bikes to its peace officers’ patrol fleet.

The ENVO ST50 electric bikes represent a modernization of the fleet, the town notes, adding that their addition is in partnership with Lacombe’s Reds Bike Shop.

According to the town, the e-bikes will enhance local security and environmental sustainability, allowing peace officers to access and patrol areas where traditional vehicles are unable to go.

From multi-use pathways and school zones to dense residential areas, the e-bikes ensure no part of the community is inaccessible, officials say.

“Our officers will be able to move more easily through our parks, trails, and neighbourhoods, which will make them more visible and approachable. It also sets a strong example on how these devices can be used safely and responsibly, which is important as we are seeing more e-bikes and e-scooters in our town,” said Mayor Laura Svab.

The initiative also aligns with the evolving need for modern municipal enforcement. The e-bikes represent a cost-effective, community-oriented and eco-friendly patrol solution to support Blackfalds’ sustainability goals.

Blackfalds Sgt. Joe Croken added that the bikes provide a practical and safe platform to enhance enforcement capabilities.
