“We’re thrilled [with the fundraising total] because it’s a trying time for lots of businesses and households. For families and individuals to come together and invest this money into their community is just really amazing.”

The funds raised will go into multi-year program funding for local partner agencies, as well as United Way program initiatives for urgent needs and long-term community solutions.

Over the last 60 years, they have raised and invested over $52 million locally.

“Everything is local and addresses basic needs, mental health supports, as well as brighter futures for individuals and families in central Alberta,” she added.

In addition, UWCA also shared that there’s a growing community need, as they’ve received over double the number of applications for multi-year program funding than in the funding cycle in 2023.

O’Donoghue said they’re now open for grants, and applications will remain open through April 17.

CAMPAIGN AWARD WINNERS

United Way Central Alberta also recognized outstanding leadership, generosity, and commitment shown throughout the campaign by those who made a meaningful local impact.

“It’s so difficult when it comes to putting together the awards when thousands of people contributed to what we did this year,” she said. “But the awards are a way to highlight some cool stuff that happened, whether it’s at workplaces or community building stuff that’s beyond the United Way.”
